What are Essential Health Benefits?


You may have heard the term “Essential Health Benefits” used in discussions regarding health insurance, however, you may not know what it refers to. Per the Affordable Care Act, there are a list of services that are required to be covered.

These services include:

  1. Outpatient Services
  2. Emergency Services
  3. Hospitalization
  4. Maternity and newborn care
  5. Mental health and substance use disorders (including behavioral health treatment)
  6. Prescription drugs
  7. Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
  8. Laboratory services
  9. Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management
  10. Pediatric vision
