Do you Need a Personal Umbrella Policy?

No, I do not mean the object that protects you from the rain. What I mean is an insurance policy to protect you from potential financial ruins. If you find yourself reading this blog, then hopefully you are interested in more information on the importance of an umbrella policy (or you live in an area with a lot of rainfall.J)

The truth is, the answer to this question is yes. Yes, YOU need an umbrella. Everyone needs an umbrella. It does not matter your age, your wealth, the amount of assets you have accumulated, or what your hobbies are. What does matter is that everyone can benefit from an umbrella policy.

So what is this umbrella I’m talking about? Forget that image of a pointy, not-to-be-opened-indoors object and focus on the comfort in knowing there is a policy available to protect you should a major liability issue arise. An umbrella policy is designed to protect you and your assets in the event of a lawsuit. A personal umbrella policy is a type of insurance that provides liability coverage over and above automobile or homeowners policies.

Do you drive a car? Do you have a pool? Ever rent a boat while on vacation? How about own a dog? These are just a few examples of common increased liability exposures. Are you on social media? There’s good chance you stumbled on this blog from browsing your Facebook page, so don’t forget the potential of libel or slander should you offend someone.
